I’m an artist who does science.

My scientific projects focus on understanding how DNA changes over time. I use R, Perl, Unix, and a modicum of common sense to study patterns of genetic variation in species like humans, the evolution of viruses like HPV, and other interesting questions. In music, I take a classical approach to theatre and pop singing, and am the singing and saxophone half of folk-pop duo Ginger Rice, together with with my boyfriend, composer-pianist Mitch Lin. I am forever indebted to my mentors in these pursuits, too numerous to name, who have shown me the meaning of friendship.

I believe that what is important is to find out the truth. As Steinbeck says, “The main thing is not to hurry. Nothing good gets away.” Thanks for joining me on the journey.

I offer beginning lessons in voice/singing, alto saxophone, and piano/theory in Manhattan. Please send an email describing any prior training and your goals for study. Performance inquiries are also welcome; see my resumé for details.

Data Science

I am open to projects with an emphasis on bioinformatics, viral genetics, and molecular evolution. My affiliate institutions include the American Museum of Natural History, the National Cancer Institute, and New York University. For further details, see my curriculum vitae
